We do not only support the art scene at ÜberQuell: In cooperation with students from the district school at the port, the St. Pauli elementary school and the Altona children’s kitchen, the urban farming project “Green Pauli” was created on the roof of our warehouse. A garden at lofty heights where the students can grow and harvest different types of vegetables themselves. On an area of 220 square meters, the students seed, care for the plants and harvest all kinds of vegetables and herbs almost all year round – from chives to kohlrabi. In this way they learn that food does not grow in the supermarket but is real work. Practical lessons at its best. If the harvest is not eaten on the spot, it ends up either on our pizzas and bowls or in the in-house school kitchen. Even if the garden is not enough to feed hundreds of hungry schoolchildren, it can at least raise the kids’ environmental and nutritional awareness.
